In recent news, UF was informed that the consumer product Vista Ultimate Edition is included in our campus agreement. This version of Vista is appropriate for use in controlling televisions and media installations. As a consumer product, Ultimate is not eligible for extended support and has individual license keys per copy. It is not intended for broad use.
Copies will be available to UF faculty and staff in the bookstore soon under the 'work-at-home' (WAH) portion of our agreement and a University copy will be available for download from our Vista web site (http://vista.ad.ufl.edu). Keys for Vista Ultimate are unique and function the same as 'retail' keys. This means that each copy of WAH media will include a key in the box along with the DVD. Each University copy for use on a University owned machine will require a unique key that can be obtained by making a request from our Vista web site. Ultimate should only be used on campus for very specialized cases in which its use is warranted.
On other fronts, the UF Vista image has been created through the hard work and effort of the Vista TAP group and is currently in testing. Testing is expected to be complete and the image available for download around the first week of June. The image contains settings that were determined to be common and appropriate for the UF environment, as well as software that is used in the majority of campus locations such as Office 2007, McAfee Virus Scan and Acrobat Reader. The image will be provided to our major hardware vendors and we anticipate it being available as a preinstalled option on systems ordered by UF departments. Please monitor http://vista.ad.ufl.edu for the latest information on the release of the UF Vista image.
