CNS is currently working to implement a new switched wireless LAN architecture. The new WLAN architecture will be a centralized management solution based around Cisco 6500 Wireless Service Modules (WiSM).
Management of the wireless network under this new architecture will offer several benefits, including better radio frequency management, better client load balancing, improved client mobilility, improved voip over wireless functionality, and better network management capabilities. All future wireless deployments will be installed using the new centralized architecture and existing wireless access points will be migrated into the new system over time.
